CCIO Weeknotes 1.2

Still Learning

After two weeks the size, scale and opportunity of ICS working is continuing to unfold. Although this week has seen challenging news emerge for GM, it’s been incredible to see the positive response from colleagues and everyone’s willingness to view this increased support as a positive opportunity to further improve health across GM.

Being invited to join a meeting of the Frailty Group and seeing their approach to shared learning in action was a huge highlight this week and is a real model of how we can successfully work through these challenges. Their work supporting proactive care over GM to enable earlier diagnosis and intervention is vital. However what truly struck me was how system working, supported by committed clinical teams, can drive service changes that in isolation would take much longer to realise. The team at The Christie have built a compelling evidence base describing the value of bring ePROMS into cancer care and are now extending this to bring comprehensive geriatric assessments into cancer treatment pathways. Initial results sound compelling (won’t spoil them here!) and I can’t wait to see the full evaluation.

Finally, I’ve spent time this week working with our wonderful CNIO, Jacqui, to understand how we can offer more robust assurance around Clinical Risk Management in IT Systems. This is something that we will support in any way possible. We’re keen to build a network across CSOs working in GM so if this is you please get in touch!
